Dr. Shanda earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at California State University, San Bernardino, and her Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology at Azusa Pacific University. In addition, she earned her Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis on Teaching at Walden University.

Her dissertation, a phenomenological study of the impact of personal expectations on personal experiences of marriage and divorce, examined unrealistic expectations on the overall quality and outcome of marriages.

The results of her study revealed that personal expectations of marriage did have an impact on the overall quality and outcome of the marriage. She recommended that professionals who treat and coach couples on marital relationships should work with couples to help them develop more realistic expectations of marriage, hopefully decreasing the likelihood of divorce.
